This screening and discussion was held at Anthology Film Archives, on Sunday, April 7, 2002, at 7:30 PM. I introduced the films very briefly and presented some ideas about them and about Brakhage's work afterwards. Finally, "..." Reel 3, which is my favorite of the three, was screened a second time; I also screened The Lion and the Zebra Make God's Raw Jewels and Stately Mansions Did Decree.
I discussed the films both as aesthetic experiences in themselves and as part of Brakhage's long-time response to and construction of an alternative to the object-oriented nature of our mass culture. The points made were related to my recent article in Chicago Review, which is be on sale at Anthology.
