This page has links to the posts from the Internet film discussion group, a_film_by. The posts have been formatted in two different ways: as large plain text files of 10,000 posts each, and as small html files. Unfortunately the placement of several large (13 MB) text files of our posts has caused my account to almost exceed bandwidth limits; I'm not sure why, but I've had to remove the large text files. Probably I'll place them on this page a few days a month, with advance notice, for group members to download.

The html files, which were created using a very useful free text-to-html conversion program called Text2Html, should make it easier for people with slow connections to download groups of files, and are also offered in the hope that search engines will index the texts. If you copy these html files as plain text files and store them in a single directory you can use a search tool to look through them, such as the one built into Windows that will search a directory for words or phrases. In all the files, the post number is visible at the top of each post.

In addition, all or almost all of our posts have now been indexed by google. To use google to search only posts to our group, you could add keywords or exact phrases (put groups of words in quotes) or both to this advanced search, or use the advanced search window to search for the exact phrase "Posts from the Internet Film Discussion Group, a_film_by" plus whatever keywords and phrases you're looking for. Since google hasn't indexed exact phrases in these files that cross line breaks, it's probably best to search for keywords; that is, don't put quotes around your search terms but only around the accompanying "Posts from the Internet Film Discussion Group, a_film_by." Doing so should bring up all the 100-post html files with your search terms, which you can then open in your browser and search with CTRL+F. Fred Camper
